Steve Starr is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans experimental printmaking, digital collage, photography and painting. Originally trained as a commercial printer in the early 1980s, Starr’s work has developed into a sustained investigation of visual language, human figuration and the construction of meaning. His studio output extends across images, texts, exhibitions and artist books, produced from Lennox Street Art Studios in Newtown, Australia.

With more than three decades in the arts and cultural sector, Starr is also a published author, curator and heritage specialist. His projects include exhibitions, essays and online publications focused on Australian art, photography and social history.

Before entering the visual arts, Starr worked as a professional musician, performing and recording in Australia and Britain.

Starr has exhibited at the Other Art Fair, Affordable Art Fair Sydney, Rex‑Livingston: Art & Objects, Potts Point Galleries, Gallery on Darling, UNSW Kudos Gallery and Scratch Art Space. His work is held in private collections in Australia, Great Britain and the USA.

He has been a finalist in the Naked & Nude Art Prize and the Mount Eyre Art Prize, and is a three‑time recipient of the National Trust Heritage Award.
